Telegram bot hosting: VPS vs PaaS vs managed hosting
For a single hobby bot, almost any host can work. The operational burden becomes more important when you maintain client bots and need predictable uptime, logs, restarts and a repeatable deployment process.
What matters most
- Reliable process supervision: the bot should restart after a crash or server reboot.
- Logs you can access quickly: debugging client incidents should not require hunting through multiple VPSs.
- Safe environment variables: bot tokens and API keys should stay outside the repository.
- Simple redeploys: pushing a fix should not mean a long SSH checklist every time.
- Monitoring and backups: especially if the bot stores state or depends on a database.
VPS
A VPS gives you maximum control and is often cost-effective, but you own the operational layer: Linux updates, Docker or systemd, certificates, firewall rules, monitoring, backups and recovery.
PaaS
Platforms such as Render, Railway and similar services reduce infrastructure work. They are usually easier to start with, while pricing, limits and service behavior vary by provider and workload.
Managed hosting
Managed hosting makes the most sense when your priority is reducing maintenance rather than minimizing raw server cost. Kochura Deploy is currently validating whether freelancers and small agencies need this kind of workflow for client bots.
When a VPS is still the right choice
If you are comfortable with Linux and only maintain a small number of services, a VPS may remain the simplest and cheapest option. The pain usually grows with the number of client environments you have to keep consistent.
